At Ojalá, we welcome pitches that contribute to building a shared understanding from a dissident perspective.
We publish two bilingual articles a week—each with an English and a Spanish version— which undergo a careful editing process that includes fact-checking, spelling and style correction, and translation.
There are four types of articles: book reviews, interviews, opinion pieces, and reportages. Most of the articles we publish are no longer than 1,500 words.
We are a small team with limited resources for reviewing pitches, which are discussed by the editorial team at our weekly meeting. With that in mind, we invite you to follow these guidelines when submitting your ideas.
Pitches
Ojalá is a space that focuses on trans-inclusive feminism and social and community struggles in and from Latin America, as well as political analysis that helps us contextualize and understand the times we are living in.
Your pitch should give us a clear idea of what your article will be like: what is the story? Please make your point of view and the tone you wish to use in your story clear. We recommend reviewing our previous coverage and suggesting how your article aligns with our work or contributes to what we have already published.
Pitches should be no longer than two paragraphs, clearly explaining the story concept, sources of information, and a suggested deadline. You can pitch us in Spanish or English.
If you are interested in collaborating with Ojalá, please send your pitch to pitch@ojala.mx.
Our estimated response time is two weeks.
Editing process
We work closely with writers during the editing process, exchanging different versions of the article.
We publish original stories. We do not accept pitches to cover conferences or congresses (put on by political parties or academics). Nor do we republish stories from other media outlets or personal blogs. We strive to produce thoughtful, reflective journalism, so we do not publish breaking news.
All our publications use inclusive language in Spanish.
Payment
Payment amount will be stipulated upon acceptance of your pitch and will be made five business days after the article is published. We do not offer travel expenses or advance payments.
Thank you!
